The Boggstown Cabaret Supper Club can be found a mere five miles or so west of Shelbyville, Indiana and some twenty miles southeast of Indianapolis. This interesting greater Indianapolis theatre and performance venue offers ongoing entertainment in the form of live comedy and music.
Originated in 1984 as the Boggstown Inn & Cabaret, the venue is an erstwhile barber shop and general store. Of interest is the rumor that the building, constructed in 1873, has been haunted for several generations.
The Boggstown Cabaret Supper Club has survived several transformations, and through it all has been a commitment to delivering pure fun to its audiences.
When they first opened their doors, the establishment provided piano and banjo Ragtime music to back up any volunteer musicians. These days, they keep a pianist and drummer on staff and offer a cheerful, inviting environment for performers and audience members alike.
Part of the club’s allure for performers are the professional lighting, theatrical effects and costumes, along with the bright and friendly1920s ambiance. Along with classic cabaret fare, the club produces several big shows a year, especially around the holidays.
Boggstown is a tiny dot on the Indiana map between Shelbyville and Greenwood. The Cabaret Supper Club has a real menu, unlike many dinner theatres that only offer a couple of choices. On the list are some great appetizers and desserts, framing entrees like beef pot roast, grilled chicken and crisp walleye, always served with the club’s famous fried biscuits and apple butter alongside.
The same folks who took over the Boggstown Cabaret now own the Nashville, Indiana Coachlight Musical Theatre, a 175-seat facility in nearby Brown County. The two groups work together to entertain Central Indiana in a unique and professional manner.
Jean Ray, a noted travel author, calls the Boggstown Cabaret Supper Club in Shelby County “One of the best-kept secrets in the United States.” Maybe it’s time to see what all this under-the-radar fuss is about? The Cabaret Supper Club will work with tours and groups to offer an unforgettable time with them.
